Why every mug is a little different
Speckles, runs and wobbles: what happens to a pot in the kiln.
By Maya1 min read

People sometimes ask why the mug they get doesn’t match the photo exactly. The short answer is the kiln.
Speckles
The speckles come from tiny bits of iron in the clay. They move up through the glaze as it melts, and where they end up is different every time.
Runs
Where two glazes overlap they run together. A few degrees hotter or cooler and the run is longer or shorter.
So your mug is one of a kind. I think that’s the nice part.
